Celina Ortiz

After graduating with her Bachelor of Arts in Religion and Social Justice from Agnes Scott College, Celina began work at Ruth Ellis Center in Ruths House, a residential foster care home for youth ages 13-18. Her responsibilities included preparing youth for independent living: getting to and from school/work, appointments, and after-school activities, as well as planning outings to immerse youth in Detroit arts and culture. Ruths House prepared Celina for her current role with Ruth Ellis Institute, co-facilitating a group for LGBTQ+ youth in foster care in Michigan called Journey Ahead which is focused on using positive identity development for our youth through trauma-informed care, therapeutic adventure exercises, and independent living support. As Education and Facilitation Specialist, Celina brought her expertise of positive youth development to training child welfare case managers, equipping other systems of care with practices for creating healthy and safe outcomes for our LGBTQ+ youth across Michigan.
