Description
This session presents a case study of a 400-person academic organization undergoing rapid growth and the need for a cohesive, collaborative strategy for the future. Part case study, part how-to guide, it explores how to engage the entire workforce in the strategic planning process to create an inspiring, inclusive vision. Rooted in traditional qualitative research, the process prioritized creating a safe environment where every voice could be heard and valued. The approach not only educated our leadership team but also energized employees and exceeded external stakeholder expectations. While the plan itself is a living, adaptable document, the journey of its creation serves as a foundational step toward meaningful and sustained organizational alignment. Too often, leaders isolate themselves to craft a so-called ‘golden’ strategic plan—polished, publicized, but ultimately disconnected from the people who must bring it to life. This session challenges that model, advocating for a ‘community’ approach that transforms a top-down plan into a shared, collective strategy. The outcome? Employees and leaders alike feel deeply committed to and enthusiastic about the vision they’ve co-created. Rather than requiring constant top-down effort to drive it forward, the plan gains momentum because everyone is already invested in making it a reality. This session is ideal for leaders and professionals seeking to create strategies that are not only meaningful but also fully embraced by their teams.
