Name
Masterclass 4: Managing Complexity (and Chaos) in Times of Crisis
Date
Wednesday, May 18, 2022
Time
11:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Description

This interactive Masterclass will introduce and take you through Prof Dave Snowden’s field guide which helps to navigate crises, using the Cynefin framework as a compass.
The 2 hour Masterclass will demonstrate a four-stage approach through which you can:
1.      assess the type of crisis and initiate a response;-
2.      adapt to the new pace and start building sensing networks to inform decisions;-
3.      repurpose existing structures and working methods to generate radical innovation;-
4.      transcend the crisis, formalise lessons learnt and increase resilience.
The session will stress the importance of setting and managing boundaries, building informal structures, keeping options open, distributing engagement and keeping an ongoing assessment of the evolving landscape.
Action items, real life examples and demonstrations complement the references to the developing theoretical framework.

How does this session align with the conference theme "Strategy in a 'Right Now' World" and topic areas
Decision-makers face increasingly unprecedented levels of volatility and complexity. In this context, practical tools and methods that help us make sense of, and act in complexity are becoming increasingly important. This masterclass is a chance to spend some time with the creator of Cynefin, Dave Snowden, discussing strategy, leading in complexity, designing systems for complex adaptive systems, and managing through ambiguity.
