Housing is the cornerstone of health and wellness. Mental Health has a tremendous impact on an individual's ability to find and maintain housing. Understanding the unique emotional needs of refugees, developing basic Mental Health Awareness and Referral Skills, and partnering with community supports can greatly impact the mental health of tenants or potential tenants leading to more stability in housing. This presentation will provide education on the refugee resettlement process, discuss research on the mental health needs of refugees, discuss the current research and creative models used internationally to provide support for refugees, and discuss the practical application of such models for use in the United States with refugees, asylum seekers and other marginalized populations.
