Description

Angeline Boulley, an enrolled member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, is a storyteller who writes about her Ojibwe community in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. She is a former Director of the Office of Indian Education at the U.S. Department of Education. She lives in southwest Michigan, but her home will always be on Sugar Island. Firekeeper’s Daughter is her debut award-winning novel, and was an instant #1 NYT Bestseller being made into a Netflix series by Barack and Michelle Obama’s production company, Higher Ground.  Her second novel, Warrior Girl Unearthed, will be available May 2nd.  Ms. Boulley will share her author journey – “There simply are too few stories told by and about Indigenous girls and women, especially from a contemporary viewpoint.” She will then join Melissa Kiesewetter for a conversation about Firekeepers Daughter, and current projects. Ms. Kiesewetter is a Tribal Liaison with the Michigan Department of Civil Rights and has worked for and with Tribal Nations, currently administering the statewide Michigan Indian Tuition Waiver program, and is a dedicated and trusted key resource for both State of Michigan Tribal Liaisons and Tribal Leaders.
