Description

Rarely do we get an opportunity to be in the presence of icons, our heroes and sheroes. BMCC 2023 proudly provides attendees with one of these rare moments. Join us as we end our two-day conference with the incomparable world-renowned activist, philosopher, feminist, scholar, and author, Professor Angela Davis. Born in Birmingham, Alabama in the 1940’s, Professor Davis knew of and experienced racial prejudice.  As a teenager she started organizing interracial study groups that were broken up by the police, only the beginning of a life written about in books, song lyrics, movies, and so much more.

Professor Davis is a professor at the University of California, Santa Cruz and writes extensively on class, gender, race, and the prison industrial complex, with her latest book, Abolition.Feminism.Now. written in collaboration with Beth Richie, Erica Meiners, and Gina Dent.

Be in the room and a witness to an interview of a lifetime by Kimberly Trent, Deputy Director of Prosperity, Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity, as she revisits some pivotal moments for Professor Davis and explores her thoughts on current events, the state of equitable housing, and what most needs our attention.
