This workshop will present the possibilities of deepening student learning through partnering with college education programs. The lead 4th grade teacher and the college instructor will provide an overview of a partnership between the elementary school and the college. The overview will include details on how the book club program is organized and the benefits for the 4th grade students (and the college interns). The teacher candidates will share their experiences in leading a small group of 4th grade students through the study of a novel and their perspective on how the students grew in their understanding of literature, engagement in reading, and excitement for learning new words and expanding their vocabulary.
