Calming the Classroom
Description

Calming the Classroom is an interactive, hands-on workshop designed to help educators proactively support student self-regulation and create calmer, more focused learning environments. Grounded in brain-based research and responsive classroom practices, this session moves beyond theory to provide practical strategies teachers can immediately integrate into everyday instruction—without adding more to their workload. Participants will learn how to recognize early signs of student dysregulation and understand how stress, emotion, and attention impact learning and behavior. Through guided activities, discussion, and modeled practices, educators will explore concrete tools they can use in real time to help students regulate emotions, restore focus, and re-engage in learning. The session introduces accessible self-reflection frameworks such as HALT and Mindful SNACKing, helping teachers support student awareness, emotional control, and intrinsic motivation in developmentally appropriate ways. Teachers will actively experience and practice a variety of mindful and physical strategies, including breathing techniques, brain breaks, and calm classroom routines that can be embedded seamlessly into daily schedules. Participants will also examine how intentional celebration of progress and success strengthens motivation, builds confidence, and reinforces positive regulation skills over time. This highly engaging workshop emphasizes application and reflection, ensuring educators leave with a clear, adaptable toolkit of strategies that work across grade levels and content areas. Rather than one-size-fits-all solutions, Calming the Classroom empowers teachers to respond flexibly to student needs while fostering a supportive, responsive classroom culture. Attendees will walk away prepared to implement practical, brain-based strategies immediately, supporting both student well-being and academic engagement.
