When I entered an educational leadership role, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. There is no class that prepares you for this endeavor. It doesn't matter how many degrees you have. Experience is the only pathway to preparation. Gaining experience means diving into the shark tank headfirst. Being a principal is not for the faint of heart and believe me when I say it is lonely. Ironically, as I explain this arduous job in what seems to be a negative light, you should know that being in private school leadership is a true blessing, despite the level of difficulty. It is a beautiful mission that not many are called into.
