Can I make and perform my own arrangement of the latest Lady Gaga song? Is it ok to make a photocopy for my accompanist? Why can't I upload certain pieces of music to Youtube? Copyright law is ever changing as technology evolves and music-making becomes more and more a digital endeavor. This session presents an overview of US copyright law as it applies to music teaching and learning at all levels.

Participants will understand the nature, purpose, and implementation of copyright law in the United States.

Participants will become acquainted with resources to obtain performance permission as well as mechanical and sync licenses.
