This session stems from choral education research on the teaching of culturally diverse musics. There will be a summary of authentic, respectful, and responsive preparation processes that choral educators can engage in, such as processes for deciding on the song(s) one will teach, ways to locate informants and resources, and some ways to learn and learn about a particular music. Also covered will be implementation strategies, with considerations for teaching context, foreign languages, vocal tone, expression, and movement. Relating to additional research on choral educator development, this session further concerns the kinds and characteristics of experience that can lead to more expansive, culturally diverse practice.
