Description

This session will address how music teachers and other public education advocates and supporters can influence the education policy arena. Possible topics will include: Schools of choice, Public schools vs. Charter schools, Vouchers/Tax credits, Privatization of public education, Teachers unions, Teacher evaluation, Standardized testing, Teacher shortage.

Learning Objective 1
Participants will come away with a better awareness and understanding of issues and policies impacting their students, jobs, schools, and music programs.
Learning Objective 2
Participants will learn new techniques and strategies for becoming active in policy work in their schools and beyond.
Learning Objective 3
Participants will be encouraged to become more actively engaged in policy work that can improve their working conditions, which become their students' learning conditions.
