Mike Yaros is the current Director of Bands at Marlette Community Schools.



He has formerly served as the Director of Bands at Fort Gratiot Middle School in the Port Huron Area School District in Port Huron, MI, at Landmark Academy in Wadhams, MI, and in the West Branch/Rose City School District in Ogemaw County.



He is also serves as the Director of Choral Music and Associate Organist at Grace Episcopal Church of Port Huron. He is an amateur composer/arranger, and an adjunct instructor of music appreciation at St Clair County Community College. He has previously played horn three seasons as personnel in the International Symphony of Port Huron and Sarnia, ON.

Over his 13 years as an educator of students of all ages, Mr. Yaros has developed a reputation for directing high-achieving ensembles. His groups have qualified for state festival seven out of the ten years he's taken groups to festival. In the Port Huron Area School District, where he taught for 6 years, his 8th grade concert band has qualified for state festival five years in a row, and his 7th grade, four years. For three years running, both groups achieved straight Division 1 (superior) ratings at state festival. His bands have performed all across Michigan and even in cities across North America, including St. Louis, Chicago, New York City, Gatlinburg, and Toronto. His jazz ensembles were guests at the Martin Luther King Day Honorarium in Port Huron in 2017 and at the Thornapple Kellogg Jazz Festival in 2018.

Mr. Yaros holds a HS diploma from Gladwin High School in Gladwin, MI, an undergraduate degree in music education from Central Michigan University, and has a Master of Music in Education degree from Vandercook College of Music in Chicago, IL.

He has also previously engaged in non-degree earning study on natural horn with Rick Seraphinof at Indiana University, jazz studies with Mike Steinel at The University of North Texas, and jazz horn with Tom Varner at The University of Seattle - Washington.

Mr. Yaros is a member of The American School Band Directors Association (ASBDA) Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia men's music fraternity, National Association for Music Education (NAFME), Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association (MSBOA), American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), and the International Society of Jazz Arrangers & Composers (ISJAC).
