Tim Bates is a planner and program manager in Sound Transit’s Office of Planning and Development, with two decades of experience in both the public and private sector. He is a founding member of Sound Transit’s integrated joint development program, leading efforts to plan, design, and implement TOD that is directly integrated with transit facilities. Tim currently leads TOD efforts on two major light rail extensions in Seattle: the Ballard Link Extension and the West Seattle Link Extension. He also has experience leading TOD implementation projects and station area planning efforts at Sound Transit. Tim has also worked at the local and regional level to plan for productive transit corridors, improve multimodal connections to transit, and shape policies that support transit-oriented communities. Tim holds a BA from Macalester College and a Master in City Planning from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
