Thatcher is a national leader in equitable transit-oriented development, and leads Sound Transit's community development activities. He has guided 3,300 housing units in various stages of development since joining the agency in 2015, including 2,500 affordable units. He has built out a robust partnership-approach for the agency, aligning public and private affordable housing funding to Sound Transit property development solicitations: including a 0 million partnership with the Amazon Housing Equity Fund and a 0 million partnership with the Washington State Housing Finance Commission. Thatcher hails from Minneapolis, where he worked in public TOD finance and neighborhood commercial real estate development, and was a leader in business district policy and administration, active transportation, and local history.
