Preserving Middle Neighborhoods for Future Generations
Kimberly Smith-Drake
Description

Often described as neither the strongest nor weakest communities, “middle neighborhoods” are home to middle- and working-class families, and hover on the edge between growth and decline. But with modest investment to sustain them, these middle neighborhoods can remain safe, affordable places that offer people a high quality of life and access to opportunity.

This session explores data about the shifts and movement of middle neighborhoods from the 1970s to today. Attendees will learn about tactics and policy approaches to stabilize these communities.
