Residing in Flint MI, Darnell is deeply entrenched in grassroots initiatives aimed at uplifting marginalized communities. Since 2010, he has been a dedicated community volunteer with the Genesee County Land Bank's Clean and Green program. Through this initiative, Darnell has provided mentorship to dozens of youth while spearheading summertime maintenance services for numerous vacant and abandoned lots in the city's hard-hit northside. Darnell serves as a mentor and educator, empowering marginalized individuals to embrace their full potential and actively engage in their communities. His work exemplifies the transformative power of art and activism in creating a more equitable and just society. Darnell received a master’s degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan, and a doctoral degree from the Pacific School of Religion, Berkeley, California.
