Understanding the needs of Seniors
Description
Older adults are the fastest-growing segment of the population experiencing homelessness, yet their needs often differ from those of younger adults. This session will explore the unique challenges facing older adults, including chronic health conditions, cognitive impairment, elder abuse, social isolation, and barriers to accessing housing and supportive services. Participants will learn evidence-based and trauma-informed strategies to improve identification, engagement, housing stability, and cross-sector collaboration with aging, healthcare, and homeless service systems. The session will also highlight promising practices and policy opportunities to better meet the needs of older adults experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
