Around the country, communities are pushing for more "missing middle" housing options--housing that's in between multifamily apartments and single family homes--because of its importance to diversity and affordability in neighborhoods. The preservation of missing middle housing is a win-win-win for renters, property owners, and the future of our neighborhoods. This session defines missing middle housing and discusses strategies for the identification and preservation of small multifamily buildings across Michigan. Additionally, three program examples from Detroit will provide realistic examples for communities across the state to consider as part of a missing middle strategy.
