Speaker Bio
Kurt Neiswender, AIA, LEED AP is an Assistant Professor of Practice in the College of Architecture and Design at Lawrence Technological University. A licensed architect with over twenty years of experience, he is the principal of Urban Colab Architecture, L.3.C., a practice based in Flint, Michigan focused on community-centered commercial and adaptive reuse projects.

His research sits at the intersection of professional practice and emerging technology, with a particular focus on AI-assisted tool-making in architecture. Rather than treating artificial intelligence as a productivity aid, Neiswender's work investigates the capacity for practitioners to author their own computational instruments, encoding domain expertise into software that commercial tools do not address. This work has produced a growing suite of open-source web tools for architectural practice spanning energy modeling, acoustic analysis, structural system design, and client qualification.

Neiswender brings his practice and research directly into the studio, preparing students not only to use the tools of the profession but to build them. He is the co-host of the Coffee Sketch Podcast and an active voice in conversations about the future of small firm practice, value-based professional services, and the role of the architect as toolmaker.
