Mark is a staff attorney in the Detroit Justice Center’s Economic Equity Practice focusing on Community Land Trust developments.
Mark is a real estate attorney with a focus on addressing the need for affordable and
sustainable housing in Detroit’s neighborhoods, in partnership with Community
Development Organizations.
Mark previously practiced with Miller Canfield in the Real Estate and Environmental
Groups where he focused on economic development matters and created the firm’s Climate
Law Team.
Since 1985, he has participated in the development and rehabilitation of nine multifamily
and mixed-use properties, including nearly 2,000 residential units and 120,000 square feet of
commercial space. Seven developments are in the City of Detroit containing 1,200 market
rate and affordable units, developed under the City’s Inclusionary Housing Ordinance
utilizing multiple federal, state and local economic development incentives.
Mark has extensive start-up and venture capital experience having started 3 venture capital
backed companies as well as an incubator offering legal and financing support to fellow
Mark received his J.D. from Wayne State Law School and his B.A. (Phi Beta Kappa) in
economics from Michigan State University.
