Kavei Murangi has been with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development since April 2022. She currently serves as a Program Analyst in Detroit’s Office of Field Policy and Management, where she is responsible for addressing program delivery issues, and assessing program impacts in the community. Kavei also serves as the state point of contact for the HUD ConnectHomeUSA (CHUSA) Initiative. CHUSA is a platform for community leaders, local governments, nonprofit organizations, and private industry stakeholders to join and produce locally tailored solutions for narrowing the digital divide for HUD-assisted residents living in CHUSA-designated communities across the country. Prior to HUD, Kavei served in the private sector as a banker, and as a Research Fellow for a Community Action Development Corporation where she worked on affordable housing policy recommendations at the nonprofit and municipal level. Kavei earned her undergraduate degree from St. Mary’s College of Maryland, and a M.A. in Politics and Public Policy from Lehigh University in Pennsylvania.
