Name
Housing for All and Climate Change
Date & Time
Tuesday, May 3, 2022, 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
Description

Housing that is not inclusive to all is exclusive to many. There are far too few independent living options for those who face many types of limitations or challenges. Neighborhoods and communities are enrichened through a diverse and inclusive population with equitable housing opportunities. Planning and designing all new housing to serve more people is a simple and logical solution. Meanwhile, the planet is warming. Building construction and operations account for nearly 40% of global annual greenhouse gas emissions. As we retool to solve one problem, we can address others as well, including reducing the carbon footprint of the built environment. This session will focus on specific measures we can integrate into the planning and design processes to achieve housing that serves a more diverse population while reducing global warming potential that leads to climate change.
