Kenya Cooper has worked for the Michigan Department of Civil Rights for the last 19 years. She started when she was 8 years old. For 13 years, she was a Civil Rights Investigator tasked with investigating complaints that were dually filled under the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act and with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). She has spent the last six years investigating housing complaints that are filed with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Civil Rights’ law enforcement is more than a job to Mrs. Cooper, it is a lifestyle. She enjoys seeing a positive investigation outcome that ensures more equitable housing for all of those involved.
