Organizing the percussion section of a concert band or orchestra begins with the assignment of parts to each piece of music. This is a hugely important task that should not be left to students to “figure out” on their own as happens far too often. Directors should better understand the process in order to be responsible for making certain students have equal opportunities, are being treated fairly and getting experience on all of the percussion instruments.
