Name
8th Annual MSBOA/MASTA Teachers Orchestra Rehearsal
Date & Time
Thursday, January 24, 2019, 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Description
Looking to recharge your musicianship, rehearsal strategies, and conducting techniques through an active participatory session? Join us for the annual MMC Teachers Orchestra where we will be joined by clinician John Varineau (Grand Rapids Symphony Orchestra, Calvin College) for a great afternoon of music making with Dag Wiren's Serenade for Strings, an arrangement of Debussy's Girl with the Flaxen Hair, and Richard Meyer's Ghosts of Brandenburg.

After an opening session remembering what it is like to be a “student” again, the Teachers Orchestra will serve as the demonstration/lab group for the Conducting Symposium, giving participants the opportunity to learn and observe techniques from several conductors.

The Teacher Orchestra experience will culminate in a Friday night performance for students, family, and friends! (Bowed parts will be emailed after registration is received. Please prepare in advance so that the day can maximize its focus on the musical and pedagogical aspects of the works. This year we are featuring the ASTA Competition winner on the concert program (unaccompanied). SCECHs are available through the MMC for participation in this ensemble.)
