As music educators we know how important it is to develop our listening skills.  We are trained to be skillful listeners.  We must have the ability to differentiate between minor and major, piano and pianissimo and to be acutely aware of musical mistakes.  In this presentation I want to show how important it is to listen beyond the music and that by listening to our students, parents, administrators, and colleagues we can increase impact in our classrooms. A student that is truly listened to will thrive, will contribute to a higher level, and will positively impact how the teacher teaches!  An educator who develops the skill of listening can make change across a school, a district and an entire community.
