MSVMA Collegiate Session #3 - I Survived My First Year of Teaching

Description
This session will provide insight, experiences, and advice for pre-service or first-year teachers. I will discuss my experiences in college, student-teaching, the job search, and my first year working in the education field, as well as discuss strategies for self-advocacy and self-care. There will also be opportunities for attendees to ask questions and network. This session will also be applicable for music teachers of all types.

Learning Objective 1
Pre-Service and First-Year Teachers will learn strategies to advocate for themselves with administration and their peers as they begin their career.
Learning Objective 2
Pre-Service and First-Year Teachers will learn about the transition from Student-Teaching to teaching alone, as well as strategies for the first day of school, planning, and other unique possibilities.
Learning Objective 3
Pre-Service and First-Year Teachers will learn from their peers through large-group discussions about individual experiences.
