Too often, nuanced assessment has been missing from band and orchestra classrooms. In this session, Dr. Ryan Shaw from Michigan State University will discuss how to create a system of formative assessments for the secondary instrumental ensemble classroom. The session will cover formative assessment types, rationales and philosophy behind assessment choices, and ways to ensure students experience growth in musical skills and knowledge.
