A.I. is coming, but not for your job!
Thursday, January 23, 2025
9:00 AM - 9:45 AM
Description
Artificial Intelligence seems to be everywhere. Despite what you might read or hear, A.I. will not be replacing in-person, human-to-human instruction. Instead, A.I. is far more likely to be another tool in your belt to help save your precious time, leaving more room for ‘the good stuff’ like making music. For students, A.I. can assist with scaffolding to help with learning and creativity, not replace it. In this session, we will explore an array of A.I. powered tools for music and music education. Appropriate use of A.I. for both teachers and students will be at the center of the conversation.
Many A.I. tools can help streamline lesson planning and routine administrative tasks. Generative A.I. tools producing music based on student prompts can provide valuable scaffolding for young composers. Imagine jumping up the hierarchy of skills to shape and recraft music sooner, while still learning to build music from scratch. Discernment and critique skills can easily be applied to A.I. generated music, providing opportunities to move students to a sophisticated level more quickly. In addition, A.I. tools for music-making can deepen the music learning and creation process by offering options no one in the room may have considered, thus sparking new ideas among students. Additional A.I. tools can provide richer feedback about performances, open doors for students with learning or language challenges, and connect you and your students to new music you’ve never experienced.
