Prep, Prioritize, and Plan: A Discussion on Strategies from Teachers for Teacher Work-Life Balance

Saturday, January 25, 2025
8:00 AM - 8:45 AM

Description
As educators in a post-covid world, we see an annual increase in the number of teachers leaving the field, with nearly 8% of educators in America exiting the profession in 2022. This issue arose during a discussion led by myself and Rob Stow at the 2024 Michigan Music Conference's MSVMA New Teacher Meet and Greet. Many teachers labeled they often forget to prioritize their own needs and hobbies and had no plans or routines to combat these issues. This lack of self-support can lead to burnout, inconsistencies in routine, and an increased need for mental health resources. In this discussion panel, we will discuss and answer questions about our journeys thus far in our careers and strategies we have implemented to balance our life as educators, musicians, parents, and individuals.
