Adaptive Music in the Secondary Setting- What, How, and Why

Saturday, January 25, 2025
9:00 AM - 9:45 AM

Description
As ensemble directors, the idea of teaching general music classes for middle/high school can be intimidating. In addition, many music educators have not received extensive training in regards to working with students with disabilities. When this speaker was asked to teach a class catered towards these exact subjects, they said, "Sure!", and hoped for the best. Based on personal experience, this session will focus on techniques and curriculum ideas for the implementation and teaching of adaptive music for secondary students enrolled in special education programs. This session will include: example weekly plans/schedules, activity and unit ideas (including a free unit), and tips/tricks on keeping students interested.
