Legato - Singing the Consonants - Why Should Vowels Get All the Fun?
Friday, January 24, 2025
5:00 PM - 5:45 PM
Description
Why do teachers and conductors continually call out vowels as the only important part of legato singing? Dr. Parr and Ms. Ribeiro, music faculty members at Albion College, make a case for the importance of consonants in legato singing. Using their combined singing, teaching and conducting experience, Ms. Ribeiro will give a mini voice lesson to a current Albion student, focusing on the solo pedagogy of singing the consonants, and then Dr. Parr will take over the session, using the participants as a choir, in order to teach the process of ‘singing the consonants’ to a group.
