Building a Foundation for Superior Performance
Friday, January 24, 2025
2:00 PM - 2:45 PM
Description
Ensembles that perform at a superior level all have something in common – the performers have solid fundamental skills. As students develop independence in their fundamental performance skills, ensemble rehearsal time can pivot toward a focus on musicianship and ensemble skills. Through a planned approach to fundamental skills, directors can guide their students toward musical independence. Developing rhythmic independence, sight reading skills, and basic music theory skills to support ensemble performance allows directors more time in rehearsal to focus on musicianship and ensemble skills.
In this session, we will explore ways to incorporate rhythm, sight reading, and theory skills, with the use of presentation software, to build independence in the performance classroom.
