Jazz Band Bass-ics

Friday, January 24, 2025
10:00 AM - 10:45 AM

Description
The rhythm section can make or break the performance of a school jazz band. Within the rhythm section, the bass is often part of the problem rather than the solution. Examples include too loud, too soft, too boomy, too bright, out of tune, poor technique, and more. Directors with little to no experience with the instrument are in the majority. Many rely on the student's knowledge which may or may not be accurate. This session will look at types of instruments, types of amplifiers, proper playing techniques, and creating an ideal sound that will support and enhance the overall performance of a band.
