“Self-contained? Yes, please!”: Teaching Students in Self-Contained and Mainstreamed Settings
Friday, January 23, 2026
2:00 PM - 2:45 PM
Description
Are you teaching students in a self-contained/basic music class setting? Teaching music to students in these small group settings can feel challenging when many music educators are given minimal experience and training in teaching students with differing needs. It is also a unique environment for learning, creating, and music-making in a new way! Learn a tried and true framework for a smooth, self-contained music class. Are you teaching students with IEPs in the general music classroom? Learn how universal designs for learning can be easily applied in the music classroom to help all students succeed! You will come away from this session with examples and materials ready to use on Monday.
