Teaching Through the DEI Backlash: Maintaining and Advancing Practices that Meet Individual Needs
Friday, January 23, 2026
8:00 AM - 8:45 AM
Description
Although (in April when I applied to present) Michigan does not yet have state-level laws banning DEI practices, executive orders at the federal level have made many teachers hesitant about aspects of their instruction. In this session, I'll review the current state of the "DEI backlash," share resources that can help teachers stay up to date on policy issues, and propose ways to continue and expand practices that meet individual needs in music classes.
