This session is designed to help ensemble teachers reflect upon what enables and constrains their decision-making. Attendees will collaborate to identify restrictive structures, (e.g., administrator, community, adjudication expectations) and reimagine their practice to better serve students.

Attendees will identify internal and external social structures that constrain music teacher agency (e.g., administrator expectations, ideas of “success,” career goals, repertoire lists, etc.).

Attendees will examine case studies and strategize new options and outcomes.

Attendees will consider how they can reimagine decisions they make in their classroom to best serve their students’ needs.
