Sarah Rennie
Sarah is a 1998 Graduate of the University of Toledo College of Law and has twenty-five years of experience as a social justice attorney and homeless advocate. Sarah spent the first fifteen years of her career, including obtaining several published opinions from the Court of Appeals and the Sixth Circuit. During this time, Sarah also worked directly with chronically homeless individuals, served as Chair of the Monroe Continuum of Care, and authored over a dozen published articles on the needs of people in poverty. After leaving legal services, Sarah served as the Executive Director of several different nonprofits, including BWSH, which was both the county HARA and the only physical shelter in the region. Sarah is a recognized expert in trauma-informed lawyering, housing law, human trafficking, domestic violence, and homelessness, and has developed curriculum and provided over 100 State and National trainings. Sarah has been appointed twice by the Governor to the Campus Taskforce on Sexual Assault, and she currently serves as a governor-appointed member of the Juvenile Justice Committee. Sarah was also an elected member of the Detroit Continuum of Care and has been an instrumental part of the LITHC development team, as well as drafting site plan-specific local ordinances for planned adaptive reuse developments. Sarah is currently the Senior Director of Advocacy at the Michigan Coalition Against Homelessness
