In this workshop, participants will design a strategy and framework for navigating transformational projects while minimizing their team’s burnout. We’ll start with an overview of why transformational projects lead to burnout and how energy shifts over time, starting with excitement about the project, then the “slog” through the middle, and another peak of energy towards the end as things get ready to launch. But people get tired. I’ve worked with a number of organizations going through large-scale transformational projects and it is always a challenge to maintain momentum and morale.
This workshop will be very hands-on, with a focus on sharing learnings from current and past transformational efforts. Participants will work together to develop a strategy for managing momentum while being mindful of burnout, and they will walk away with a plan they can implement immediately.
The activity will start with identifying where they are in their transformation journey, and what they need to focus on during that period. For example, for transformations at the start of their work, the focus is more on prioritization and keeping extra work off the team’s plate so they can stay focused on their main objectives.
Participants will then go through an activity with their peers called the “triple S intervention” to identify things they can stop, start, and savor to boost morale and improve focus.
At the end of the workshop, participants will have a plan they can implement to help their transformation maintain momentum while limiting burnout, and after the session, they’ll have access to all of the worksheets and guides online for future use.
