Dr. Steven Lichty is a research, management, and foresight consultant residing in Nairobi, Kenya. He is the director of Frontline Futures, an entity focused on transformative foresight for subaltern populations. He also co-founded REAL Consulting Group, is a boutique firm focused on research, evaluation, anticipatory
learning. As a trained futurist, he uses futures thinking and strategic foresight to assist clients with building/assessing scenarios, developing greater futures literacy, and researching the socio-cultural aspects of trends, drivers, and signals related to humanitarian aid and development.
With over 25 years’ experience in various sectors (education, humanitarian aid, economic development, governance, agriculture, and youth), Steven has worked/traveled/studied in over 100 countries across Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America, including those in post-conflict, transitional, and fragile environments. Work areas include project management, strategic foresight, finance, legal, logistics, PR, HR, business development, resource mobilisation, advocacy, proposal/grant management, and education (teaching at primary, secondary, tertiary levels). His clients include UNICEF, Oxford Policy Management, Save the Children, Oxfam, USAID, the World Bank, Mars, Inc., and Freedom House. He maintains a strong network of local/regional practitioners, experts, scholars, futurists, consultants in the humanitarian, development, education, think tank, religious, and business sectors.
Additionally, he is a member of the Association of Professional Futurists’ Global Impact Board and the Chair of the Participatory Futures Global Swarm, a cooperative of futurists based in Australia. Steven also provides academic and research capacity building services for three universities in Kenya. His PhD was in African Studies (University of Florida) and also holds an MPhil in Futures Studies from Stellenbosch Business School, an MA in political science, an MA in International Relations, and a BA in economics, business, and communications.
