The chaos we experience "right now" may not be the end state; rather, it may be the shift from one thing to another. If we ignore the shift and continue to act according to the ways of the past, then we end up in a chaos we have created for ourselves. Nearly four decades ago, eminent biologist Dr. Jonas Salk argued that the inflection point in the S-curve of human population, which lasted from 1965 to 2020, indicated a shift from Epoch A to Epoch B of human evolution, and that each epoch has its own prevailing value set. If we continue to act upon the value set of Epoch A, then of course we will experience Epoch B as stressful, chaotic, and potentially catastrophic. What must we humans do differently, and how must we approach strategy differently, in order to thrive now that Epoch B has begun? What are the new epoch's prevailing values, and how can we align ourselves to them? In this session, noted futurist Eric Meade will review Dr. Salk's thinking, update it based on what we know now, and explore how the formulation of strategy must change in order to ensure the survival and success of our species in the years to come. This is not a hypothetical discourse; it is firmly grounded in the science of life. Not every species makes it through a transition like this: lemmings, for example, go through cycles of growth and collapse. So what do humans need to do differently, and how must strategy formulation adapt?
