The Middle School Band Student: A Focus on Development

Description

Participants will consider physical development of the learners in fifth through eighth grade with a focus on fine and gross motor coordination needed for instrumental performance. Strategies regarding use of movement, rehearsing, and practicing will be provided for meeting these developmental considerations. Suggestions regarding each of the instruments typically taught in middle school band will be provided. Attendees will have the opportunity to discuss the changes in physical characteristics of students as they grow from fifth to eighth grade.
