The Effects of Music Education on Brain Development

Saturday, January 29, 2022
9:00 AM - 9:45 AM

Description

Have you ever been told that what you teach is not as important as a “core†subject? In this session, you will learn how music education can benefit brain function in adolescents. A music teacher and an integrative health doctor will talk about how music causes stimulation of neurons in different areas of the brain that are correlated with four large areas of cognition: spatial, verbal, nonverbal, and mathematical. They will be looking at elementary music lesson plans, long-term and frequent exposure to music, and the effect these have on the brain in other aspects of education and life. Through these studies, we hope that administrators will start to prioritize music education.

Learning Objective 1
Learners will be able to describe how music education effects brain development.
Learning Objective 2
Learners will take away lessons to present to their administrators and how they help with brain function.
Learning Objective 3
Learners will be able to apply what they learn about music education and brain function to their own lessons.
