Speaker Bio
Dennis Milam is a Partner with BORDERLESS since 2019. Dennis has over 15 years of professional experience including working closely with private clients, developers, government agencies, non-profit organizations, and architecture and engineering offices in the United States, Austria, Middle East and Asia on projects of various scales - private residences to large scale mixed-use projects - from conception to completion. He is able to leverage his experience in all phases of design and construction to pursue holistic design excellence in all phases of a project.

His previous experience in Chicago includes the Chinatown Library (new construction), Optimo Hat Company (adaptive reuse and rehabilitation), and Public Art/Sculpture (new construction) located in a public plaza on the Near West Side. Dennis has developed a strong capacity to collaborate with client groups, design and consultant teams in a variety of specialties. For instance, the Chinatown Library, included working with the Chicago Public Library, Public Building Commission on the client side, engineering specialties and contractor teams, as well as with selected artist CJ Hungerman in the integration of public art inside the building. Another instance is his work with the Optimo Hat Company – leading makers of bespoke, handcrafted hats, serving a global clientele – in designing their headquarters to accommodate a design studio, operation and production spaces. This project required a strong collaboration with local and regional fabricators for custom-designed furniture, equipment and features. More recently, Dennis is managing the installation of a public art commission–‘HYLE' sculpture, with artist Juan Angel Chavez– located adjacent to the Chicago Police 12th District Station (Near West), and coordinating with both the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, as well as working with the architectural, structural engineering and landscape design teams.

Dennis is a member of the American Institute of Architect, Construction Specification Institute and the National Fire Protection Association.
