Healthy eating” and “health” are complicated topics that have been further complicated by the Covid-19 Pandemic. The stress, grief, and disruptions in our lives have contributed to additional concerns about our eating habits, lifestyle, and bodies. While diets, weight management, and nutrition prescriptions are often discussed as solutions- these strategies are not necessarily health-promoting. In this presentation, Registered Dietitian, Mary Balog, will discuss common food-related challenges encountered during the pandemic and the evidence behind dieting and intentional weight loss. She will introduce an alternate “non-diet'' approach, which is based on eating as a form of self-care. Attendees will leave with practical strategies for navigating stressful periods and busy schedules with self-compassion and flexibility.
