Mary Balog
Mary Balog (she/her) is a Registered Dietitian-Nutritionist and Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor based in Ann Arbor, MI. She received a Bachelor’s Degree of Science from Michigan State University, where she majored in Dietetics; as well as a Culinary Arts degree from Schoolcraft College. She completed the Dietetic Internship at Michigan Medicine, which is where she started as a clinical dietitian, covering a variety of areas, including Bone Marrow Transplant, Cardiac, and GI Medicine. She then went on to pursue a Culinary Arts degree and explore the culinary realm. She’s since collected a variety of experiences, from being a pastry sous chef, a recipe tester, a kids’ cooking instructor, and more! She currently works at Argus Farm Stop, a local year round farmers market in Ann Arbor, where she provides support with educational events. She also provides individual & group nutrition counseling, as well as cooking & nutrition seminars and nutrition consulting through partnerships with local businesses and organizations throughout Michigan. Mary’s goal is to help folks optimize their health and wellbeing by strengthening their relationship to food, their body, and their community. She uses a non-diet, weight-inclusive approach. Her practice is informed by the Health at Every Size and Intuitive Eating frameworks. Health & wellness go way beyond the plate, so even though she’s a Dietitian, she explores other aspects of food besides its nutrition, such as: client food preferences, eating habits, food budgets, work schedules, cultural food staples, and more. The “how”, “where”, “why”, and “with who” are just as important as “what” we eat! Mary helps clients navigate their food choices and eating behaviors to determine a wellness strategy that is individualized, relevant, accessible, and is informed by the research and their experience.
