Jerin Philip leads the evaluation of Phase 1 MDHSS activities on housing stability and food security for the statewide Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) plan. In Phase 2, he leads the SDOH Accelerator Plan for Chronic Disease, which emphasizes community engagement.
Previously, working in Medicaid’s Integrated Care Division, Jerin led quality oversight for the MI Health Link program, which coordinated care for dual-eligible Medicare-Medicaid enrollees, including housing supports and in-home health care services. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Prior to his current role with the State of Michigan, Jerin developed the Medicaid and value based care strategy for the National Association of Community Health Centers with a focus on SDOH. Before that role, he helped design and operate rural payment models for the federal government, including a state-based rural hospital model in Pennsylvania. In Delaware, Wisconsin, and Louisiana, Jerin led statewide policy campaigns to make it easier for people in recovery to access substance use disorder (SUD) treatment, including folks leaving jails and prisons. With lived experience on mental health, Jerin has partnered with local organizations to mentor students, improve insurance access for low-income individuals, and use technology to connect people to health care. Jerin developed the business plan and governance structure for a community health center in Flint that serves people experiencing homelessness in Genesee County. Jerin holds a Master of Public Health and a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, both from the University of Michigan.
