What Can We Do Together? Navigating Local Partnerships
Description

Using the greater Lansing, Michigan community as an example, this session will begin by highlighting proven strategies for collective action at the local level, with scalable implications for other communities. With a focus on finding common ground between grassroots and bureaucratic efforts, participants will then apply asset-based community development principles to create an outline for a local collaborative action framework for their own community. The session concludes with a presentation and discussion of innovations from communities in Michigan and beyond. Both the triumphs and tribulations of community action are explored, with particular attention paid to the racial equity gap.
