Barry received his Masters in Music from Michigan State University.
Barry taught at Flint Southwestern High School from 1966-1980 and retired from Alpena high school in 2001. Barry pioneered and established the Jazz Studies program at U-M Flint and in 1971 was part of an MSBOA committee that was formed to explore the possibilities of a Jazz Band Festival. Barry is currently an active clinician and adjudicator at these festivals.
Barry plays and teaches all of the instruments of the rhythm section which gives him a wonderful advantage regarding
how a rhythm section makes ONE sound together and how to teach that concept as it relates to the entire band.
